Removing Pesticides from Wastewater: Implementation of Constructed Wetlands
(Inglés II. Universidad Tecnológica Nacional - Facultad Regional Paraná, 2025-12) Guerrinieri , Valentina; Rodríguez Cacik, Pilar; Ulrich , Erika
Abstract— Today, with the rapid development of industry and agriculture, the amount of wastewater generated by these industries increases daily particularly due to pesticides. The use of pesticides contributes to agricultural production to control pests. However, pesticides have serious environmental consequences globally. To reverse this situation, the agricultural industry should comply with the United Nations` Sustainable Development Goals #6 aims to ensure access to safe drinking water and sanitation. Its target 6.3 deals with improving water quality and reducing water pollution. Water polluted by pesticides is not apt for consumption and the health of the people in the area is compromised when in contact with it. While pesticides can affect the soil and air, the most serious environmental impact comes from water pollution due to runoff. Rain and irrigation water flow over the fields, carry pesticides, and transport them to nearby rivers or groundwater. This paper analyses a solution to this problem, namely, the construction of wetlands. This paper thus has two purposes: addresses the problem of water contamination by pesticides and describe and analyse a solution by means of implementation of constructed wetlands. This paper is organized as follows. Firstly, a description of the problem. Secondly, the problem approach. Finally, an analysis of viability and evaluation of the proposal selected to solve the problem is presented. This paper is expected to contribute to raising awareness about the impact of the water polluted by pesticides and the consequences that this brings about.
