Item Lack of Access to Decent Housing: In Situ 3D Printing of Structural Elements for Social Housing Projects(Inglés II. Universidad Tecnológica Nacional. Facultad Regional Paraná, 2025-11) Martínez, Julio Cesar; Muñoz Albarello, NicolásAbstract— Due to population growth and future projections, housing construction has become one of the most urgent global challenges. This situation affects not only low-income groups but also the middle class. Although traditional construction methods are effective, they are often expensive, time-consuming, and they generate high levels of environmental impact, making it difficult to meet current housing needs efficiently and sustainably. This issue is addressed by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal # 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. One promising solution is the implementation of in situ 3D printing technology for the construction of housing, offering a potentially faster, more sustainable, and affordable alternative to traditional methods. The aim of this paper is to examine the potential of in situ 3D printing in the housing sector as a viable response to Argentina’s current housing crisis, especially for low- and middle-income populations. To achieve this aim, this paper is organized as follows. First, it presents a detailed analysis of the housing problem in Argentina. Second, it explores the technical and practical aspects of in-situ 3D printing. Then, it discusses the practical applications, as well as the benefits and limitations of this technology. Finally, it analyzes whether it constitutes a viable solution to the current Argentine real estate crisis. This paper is expected to contribute to the understanding of how emerging technologies, such as 3D printing, can contribute to sustainability.
