The pure siliceous mesoporous materials do not have sufficient intrinsic activities; therefore SBA-15
materials modified with Fe were synthesized by the wet impregnation method using different metal
precursors. Its ordering could be verified by TEM and N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms. The Fe content
was obtained by applying the phenanthroline method. To obtain a view of the geometry of coordination and
position of Fe in our materials, UVvis spectra with diffuse reflectance (RD) were recorded. Meanwhile, by
XRD at high angle it was possible to verify that the sample prepared with ferrous chloride tetrahydrate
formed nanospecies of hematite, while no peaks of any oxide could be observed in the sample synthesized
with ferric nitrate nonahydrate, which would involve the formation of very small and scattered metallic
nanospecies below the detection limit of XRD. However, analyzing the magnetic properties, it could be
inferred that in this sample, hematite oxide has also been formed since both have a very similar magnetic
behavior characteristic of this oxide. On the other hand, the sample synthesized with ferric acetylacetonate showed a higher intensity magnetic behavior which suggests the formation of a higher magnetization oxide such as magnetite or maghemite.
