Abstract
In the electrical panel assembly sector, within the chiller equipment manufacturing process, forced postures and the lack of furniture with adequate ergonomic design represent a risk to workers' health and productivity. With the aim of improving working conditions in this specific sector, a study was conducted focused on redesigning the stool used by operators. To understand the problem, a workplace analysis was carried out, which included direct observation of tasks, as well as the construction of an Ishikawa diagram to identify possible causes. The interaction with tools, the physical environment, and especially the current stool were evaluated, which was identified as improvised, unstable, and with no possibility of height adjustment. Anthropometric measurements of workers were taken, considering the percentiles of each individual, and based on the workplace analysis, anthropometric data, and identified causes, a new stool design was proposed that incorporates adjustable height, footrest, stable base, swivel wheels, and an extendable tool tray. The stool redesign seeks to reduce the risk of injuries, promote comfort, and optimize worker efficiency. This study highlights the importance of ergonomics in workplace design and the need to consider individual worker characteristics to create a safe and comfortable work environment.
