Abstract
Hydrodynamic experience channels are one of the main naval engineering tools for ship design. In this type of experience, measurements of certain physical parameters are taken and then correlated with those of the real ship. For this purpose, the UTN Facultad Regional Mar del Plata designed and began the first stages of construction of a closed loop channel for academic purposes. In this work, the effects that the proximity of the bottom and the lateral walls of the channel introduce in the flow around the model in contrast with the real operating conditions are studied. An attempt is made to determine the ideal scale factor for testing the existing canal using the finite volume formulas to solve the goverment equations (Navier-Stokes) and free surface transport equations. Data are obtained on the variation of the drag as a function of the Froude number for different block ratios.
