Item Water pollution reduction: Waste management methods to make rivers cleaner(2022-11-02) Kuttel Bes, SantiagoAbstract— The problem of water pollution is critical and to solve it we must go from minor to major issues starting with the rivers. To achieve this, begins by classifying the types of waste into three large groups: plastic, chemical and organic waste. Once the types of waste are understood, different options will be presented to clean the rivers. These options are: The River Cleaning System, River Oil, Port Skimmer and the Multi-Purpose Amphibious Dredger. Then a method will be chosen taking into account its pros and cons to finally modify it to achieve optimal performance in rivers.Item Ineffective waste management in civil works in Argentina: Global perspectives on effective waste disposal regulation(2023-11-21) Bertossi, Delfina; Gastaldi, MatíasAbstract — Inadequate management of construction and demolition waste (CDW) is a significant environmental and social problem in Argentina. This paper investigates the disposal of CDW in developed countries to identify potential solutions that could be implemented in Argentina. The paper provides a classification of CDW and discusses the current legal vacuum in Argentina regarding CDW management. As well as this, the paper presents case studies of CDW management policies in China, the United States, the European Union, Germany, Korea, and Australia. In addition, the paper assesses the viability of implementing similar policies in Argentina and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of doing so. It is expected that this article may raise awareness about the pollution generated by CDW and provide possible paths to address it.Item From waste to energy: A new way to use non-recyclable waste(2023-11-15) Cis Almada, Juan María; Schonfeld, FrancoAbstract— The global energy crisis, driven by population growth and industrialization, necessitates sustainable energy sources. This paper explores converting non-recyclable waste into energy, providing dual benefits: waste management and energy generation. Aligned with Sustainable Development Goals, this approach reduces environmental impact produced by waste and aids urban waste management. The paper highlights the global impact of solid waste, details the waste-to-energy process, and discusses its advantages and disadvantages. Although it is a good idea, it requires careful consideration and simultaneous waste reduction efforts to address energy and environmental challenges responsibly. It is expected that this paper may inform about the energy problem and show a new technique for obtaining energy that gives a useful purpose the burning of waste so as to have a new form of energy supply.
