Abstract
This work, which is part of a project of the Department of Industrial Engineering, proposes the design of a plasma reactor for titanium nitride (TiN) deposition on cutting tools by the physical vapour deposition (PVD) process. The analysis of two vacuum generation schemes with their advantages and disadvantages is included in the reactor design stage. The subsequent objective is the construction of the reactor using the design results. Once installed in the Materials Laboratory on the UTN-FRBA campus, it will be used not only as a teaching tool for the chairs of the Industrial and Mechanical Engineering Departments, but also for PhD theses and technological support tasks for industry. From a didactic point of view, the aim is to introduce students to surface coating technologies that improve the wear and abrasion resistance properties of cutting tools. It is also expected that the results obtained can be applied to other materials with high technological impact.
