Abstract
Preservation applying waterborne CCA compounds to sleepers (to be used as railways tracks sup- ports) is a recent application in Argentina and manufacturing processes are far from optimum. This work discusses the influence of pressure on treatment in order to reach significant improve- ments on the impregnation process. Results show that using an aqueous solution 3,2% w/v con- centration, a theoretical retention of 10,8 kg/m3 of treated wood is achieved, by means of a 338 liters solution absorption when a 1187 kPa treatment pressure is applied. Also this retention could be achieved by applying a 784 kPa pressure and a solution concentration of 4,1 % w/v.
