Item Modelo elemental de flujo de un fluido viscoso elástico. El glaciar Bahía del Diablo: Parte II(2014-04-01) Rotstein, Néstor O.; Marinsek, Sebastián; Ríos, Mohamed J.Throughout this paper we focus the detailed study of the dynamics of a large body of ice of non-uniform density that, owing to the stresses produced by its own weight, deforms and flows over an inclined bed. This first-order approximation to the overall behavior of a glacier is achieved by assuming that the mathematical profile of the glacier bed is known. We apply the formalism to “Bahía del Diablo” glacier (Vega island, located in the Argentinean sector of Antarctic) whose bed profile was derived from measurements made by means of a portable radar. The part of the glacier bed that we shall analyze is approximated by a bijective function, in this case a curve of the form z= a−1y3/2. We introduce ice density variations through a linear function. Surface velocities were also measured in situ. We find differences between measured and calculated values, which likely arise from glacier base sliding velocity, a mechanism that we do not consider in this work.
