Item Access to clean water: Sustainable, scalable and easily accessible solutions to guarantee equal and just consumption in areas with non-potable water sources(2023-11-15) Velasquez, Irina; Borghello, Joaquín; Bustamante, SolAbstract—Around the world, the water crisis is a reality that affects the most marginal areas causing large and diverse problems. There are some small towns located near non-drinking watercourses but do not have the necessary infrastructure to purify water. Based on this issue, a French company called Marine Tech has developed HELIO, a product that satisfies this need, in addition to using clean energy. This system does not consume conventional energy and is sustained by solar energy, producing approximately a total of 10 liters per day, designed for a family of 5 people, although a system series installation can be built that results in an increase in liters of purified water per day. This paper introduces the HELIO system and its advantages over other systems as the best alternative to address the lack of clean water issue.Item Access to Drinking Water in Desert Regions: Solar-Obtained Water(2022-11) Martinez Agüera, Rocío; Romero, PriscilaAbstract— We are all certain that water is a basic element for social and economic development. This means that water resources play a fundamental role in the well-being of the population, being essential for the reduction of poverty, causing a positive impact on food and energy security, and mainly, human health. However, access to drinking water is not equal to all. Therefore, the main objective of this paper is to discuss the access to drinking water in desert areas. The problem may be solved through an innovative solar device. This is a safe, economical option, easy to use and, in addition, friendly to the environment. This solution may radically change the quality of life of all people in the desert areas of our planet. Resumen— Todos tenemos la certeza de que el agua es un elemento básico para el desarrollo social y económico. Esto significa que los recursos hídricos juegan un papel fundamental para el bienestar de la población, siendo esenciales para la reducción de la pobreza, provocando un impacto positivo en la seguridad alimentaria y energética, y principalmente, la salud humana. Sin embargo, el acceso al agua potable no es igual para todos. Entonces, el objetivo principal de este trabajo es discutir el acceso al agua potable en las zonas desérticas. La problemática puede solucionarse a través de un innovador dispositivo solar. Ésta es una opción segura, económica, de fácil utilización y, además, amigable con el medio ambiente. Esta solución puede cambiar rotundamente la calidad de vida de todas las personas en las zonas desérticas de nuestro planeta.Item Accumulated Garbage in the City of Parana: Analysis of the Implementation of a Material Recycling Facility (MRF)(2023-11) Ayala, ArielSummary— Paraná is the capital city of the province of Entre Ríos. It has a large population and is continuously growing, resulting in a very high population density. Therefore, it faces significant pollution issues due to the accumulation of garbage in various parts of the city. Improperly managed waste accumulates in different areas, causing pollution, blockages, and other problems that directly impact the living beings in the vicinity. The aim of this project is to analyze the implementation of recycling facilities with MRF technology to address the problems stemming from this waste accumulation while also maximizing resource utilization. The primary objective is to raise awareness about the garbage-related issues in our surroundings and find efficient solutions for them. Resumen— Paraná es la ciudad capital de la provincia de Entre Ríos, cuenta con una gran cantidad de habitantes y está en constante crecimiento, por lo tanto, la densidad de población es muy alta. Esto lleva a que sea una ciudad con un alto grado de contaminación por acumulación de basura en los distintos puntos de esta. La basura que no es tratada como corresponde se acumula en los distintos sectores de la ciudad generando contaminación, atascamientos y demás problemas que afectan de lleno a los seres vivos a su alrededor. El propósito de este proyecto es analizar la implementación de una planta de reciclaje con tecnología MRF para solucionar los problemas que genera esta basura y a su vez aprovechar al máximo los recursos. El objetivo principal es dar a conocer los problemas que tenemos a nuestro alrededor por culpa de la basura y poder corregirlos de una manera eficiente.Item Addressing Excess PET-Type Plastic Waste in Viale: Using a Plastic Extruder Machine for Recycling and Manufacturing(2023-10-21) Contardi, Facundo; Kemerer, MarianoSummary— Around the world, non-biodegradable waste poses a significant challenge. The central focus of this article is the pollution caused by polyethylene terephthalate (PET) in the city of Viale, highlighting its impact, causes and consequences. The lack of an efficient waste management system in Viale has led to a massive accumulation of plastics, affecting streets, parks and the quality of life of the inhabitants. The key proposal is the implementation of a PET extruder machine to address this problem. The presentation is organized as follows. First, the context is described, showing the city of Viale and the place where the project will be carried out. Second, images will be shown to help understand the problem. Third, the causes that give rise to this problem are shown as well as its consequences in the city. Finally, the solution will be presented, along with an action plan. This work aims to raise awareness about the real and visible impact of non-biodegradable plastics in the city of Viale. By means of this paper, we intend to promote more sustainable and responsible waste management to drastically reduce plastic pollution in this city. Also, it is important to consider that the PET extruder machine can improve the inhabitants ‘quality of life and contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment for all.Item Agricultural Pollution: Mitigating the Effects of Pesticides(2023-11) Cusit, Lucas; Heit, LucasAbstract— Modern agricultural practices have started the process of agricultural pollution with the use of pesticides on crops. Pesticides are substances used to control or eradicate pests. The overuse of pesticides can generate agricultural pollution which is addressed by the Sustainable Development Goal N° 2 “Zero Hunger” in the aspects of food security and sustainable agriculture. Therefore, in this paper there will be an analysis of the problem of the use of pesticides in agriculture and several manners to mitigate them and in addition to this, will be an analysis of possible solution or strategies to address that issue. With this purpose in mind, this paper will follow the next order. First, there will be an account of the pollution by means of pesticides used in cultivated farm areas, as to identify the severity of the problem and its implication in the contamination of the environment. Secondly, there will be a section that will discuss possible solutions to the problem and finally there will be another that will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the solutions. This paper is expected to contribute to the analysis of the implications of the use of pesticides in agriculture and to raise awareness of their effects on people and the environment. Resumen— Las prácticas modernas de agricultura han comenzado el proceso de contaminación por agricultura con el uso de pesticidas en los cultivos. Los pesticidas son sustancias usadas para controlar o erradicar pestes. El uso excesivo de pesticidas puede generar contaminación por agricultura la cual es una de las metas del Objetivo de Desarrollo Sostenible N°2 “Hambre Cero” en los aspectos de seguridad en los alimentos y agricultura sustentable. Por lo tanto, en este paper habrá un análisis del problema del uso de pesticidas en la agricultura y varias maneras de mitigarlos y además de esto, habrá un análisis de posibles soluciones o estrategias para abordar ese problema. Con este propósito en mente, este paper seguirá el siguiente orden. Primero, se realizará un recuento de la contaminación por medio de pesticidas usados en áreas agrícolas, así como una identificación de la severidad del problema y sus implicaciones en la contaminación ambiental. Segundo, encontraremos una sección que tratará posibles soluciones al problema y finalmente encontraremos una puesta en valor de las ventajas y desventajas de las soluciones. Este paper tiene como finalidad contribuir al análisis de las implicancias del uso de pesticidas en la agricultura y promover la conciencia de sus efectos en la gente y el medio ambiente.Item Analysis of Flood Causal Factors and their Possible Solution: The Case of Almafuerte Avenue(2023-11) Müller, CristianSummary— The city of Paraná, with its valuable architectural and cultural heritage, faces the recurring challenge of pluvial flooding, especially in the Almafuerte Avenue area, caused by moderate rainfall. Inadequate topography, unplanned urban growth and changes in land use contribute to this problem. To address this issue, this work proposes the creation of absorptive green spaces to allow rainwater to infiltrate the ground, preventing its accumulation in the streets. This is not only functional but also improves the quality of life of the community. In addition, an awareness campaign will promote the importance of keeping public spaces clean to avoid blockages in drains. Despite some drawbacks, these solutions promise to reduce flood risk, prevent property damage, and improve community safety in the affected area. Resumen— La ciudad de Paraná, con su valioso patrimonio arquitectónico y cultural, enfrenta el desafío recurrente de inundaciones pluviales, especialmente en la zona de la Avenida Almafuerte, causadas por lluvias moderadas. La topografía inadecuada, el crecimiento urbano no planificado y los cambios en el uso del suelo contribuyen a este problema. Para abordar este problema, este trabajo propone la creación de espacios verdes absorbentes para permitir que el agua de lluvia se infiltre en el suelo, evitando su acumulación en las calles. Esto no solo es funcional, sino que también mejora la calidad de vida de la comunidad. Además, una campaña de concienciación promoverá la importancia de mantener limpios los espacios públicos para evitar obstrucciones en los desagües. A pesar de algunos inconvenientes, estas soluciones prometen reducir el riesgo de inundaciones, prevenir daños a la propiedad y mejorar la seguridad de la comunidad en la zona afectada.Item Applications of Organic Cells in Buildings: Integrated Photovoltaic Systems(2020-12-01) Zacarías, Juan ManuelAbstract: In this paper the use of organic cells with the aim of implementing them in urban environment for indoor and outdoor building-integrated systems is analyzed. Window systems with organic cells are presented as well as a methodology for finding their optimal parameters. This is due to the lack of good planning and coordination between emergency services and traffic authorities, the lack of public awareness of the need to yield to emergency vehicles and the state of the streets. This project consists in the analysis of the implementation of smart traffic lights on major avenues. These smart traffic lights can detect and give priority to emergency vehicles, which could significantly reduce response times. Although there are implementation and maintenance costs, the benefits make up for the investment. This solution aims to improve the safety and efficiency of emergency vehicle circulation in Paraná. Resumen: En la ciudad de Paraná, Entre Ríos, existe una ineficiente circulación de vehículos de emergencia, principalmente en las avenidas. Esto se debe a la falta de una buena planificación y coordinación entre los servicios de emergencia y las autoridades de tránsito, a la falta de conciencia ciudadana sobre la necesidad de ceder el paso a los vehículos de emergencia y al estado de las calles. Este proyecto analiza la implementación de semáforos inteligentes en las grandes avenidas. Estos semáforos pueden detectar y dar prioridad a los vehículos de emergencia, lo que podría reducir significativamente los tiempos de respuesta. A pesar de los costos de implementación y mantenimiento, los beneficios compensan con creces la inversión. Esta solución pretende mejorar la seguridad y la eficiencia de la circulación de vehículos de emergencia en Paraná.Item CO2 Capture in Large Industries: The Post-Combustion Method(2023-11-27) Lódolo, Maximiliano; Rausch, MartinAbstract— This paper presents methods for CO2 capture that are important to address the problem of contamination in large scale industries. It works for the improvement and conditioning of environments that include vehicular traffic and pedestrian traffic. I aim at looking for the most optimal performance of the place based on the comfort of the area for its consumers. The objective of the company is build and remodel places using recycled resources to achieve less pollution and a lower environmental impact. Currently our company is based in Paraná, in the Acceso Norte area, and it has two additional branches, one in Concordia and another one in the city of Santa Fe. An important fact to highlight is that we currently work with interns from UTN in the different departments of the company, with the view to give them some opportunities to practice and reinforce what they are studying at College. The problem that I decide to solve and lead as a company is the improvement of the parking lot located at the National Technological University, Paraná Regional School (UTN-FRP). The presentation is organized this way. First, we are going to describe our company´s services and markets. Then we are going to describe the facilities and premises of the company. CO2 has been accumulating for a very long time, even before the advent of the industrial revolution and the appearance of fossil fuels. At present, it is not only necessary to reduce the emission of CO2 as much as possible, but also to work to reduce the concentration of CO2 in our atmosphere. To this purpose, a number of possible solutions have been developed, four of which are presented in this paper. Three of them are based on the capture and storage of CO2 and the remaining one on the capture, storage and reuse of CO2 emitted by a distillery.Item Decarbonizing the environment: Viability analysis of carbon emission reduction processes in thermoelectric power plants(2022-11-02) Müller, Francisco; Kapp, DiegoAbstract— The uncontrolled emission of CO2 gases into the atmosphere is one of the main causes of global warming. This gas, made up of carbon and oxygen, is produced by the combustion of fossil fuels (coal, natural gas, and petroleum). This paper focuses on the emission of CO2 in electric energy generation coming from thermoelectric power. Even though currently there is a transition effort to renewable sources to reduce emissions of CO2, this type of energy production only accounts for 26,8 % of the total. This transition will take many years to be relevant. It is very important to search for viable alternatives to reduce the emission of CO2 in traditional energy in the meantime. The objective of this paper is to analyze the viability of different methods to reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.Item Dengue Prediction in Paraná: An AI-Driven Approach to Combat Dengue(Inglés I. Universidad Tecnológica Nacional. Facultad Regional Paraná, 2024) Siebenlist, Juan CruzSummary— Paraná, the provincial capital, presents challenges to act against dengue fever. These challenges entail stagnant water sources that become breeding grounds and pose health risks to the residents. However, the main challenge lies in the lack of an effective system to help authorities act against this pest. The aim of this project is to analyse how AI could be a tool to use against dengue and show the strengths and weaknesses this project could have. In order to fulfill this purpose, this work is organized as follows. Firstly, the Paraná Department is going to be contextualized; as well as this, the problem that represents the dengue fever is going to be described. Then, the causes and consequences of this problem are going to be analysed. Next, an approach to the problem is going to be described, followed by the strengths and weaknesses of the project. This work is expected to contribute to the analysis of AI solutions to current health challenges.
