Abstract
And Ranging).
Systems involving Light Detection And Ranging (lidar) have demostrated to be a very interesting laser’s application. Meaning of this acronym and its definition is introduced. The lidar’s equation and a general description of the system are presented too. Different lidar’s systems , their goals and measurements capabi- lities are shown. Among them, these descriptions include the instruments required to allow measurement of Rayleigh-Mie and Raman dispersions, high spectral resolution (HSRL) and the differential absoption lidar applied to remote gas detection (like ozone). Furthermore, fluorescent and Doppler type lidars are both presented. In every case, the purpose of each lidar and their emitted radiation ́s properties is displayed. As practical examples, a retrodiffusion lidar and a differential absorption lidar were developed and operated in our country. These activities led to successful international cooperations and allow remarkable academic goals. For instance, several Engineering doctoral thesis based on these subjects were completed.
