Abstract
The large volume and resistance to degradation of plastic materials, generate a serious environmental problem. In this work, we study the thermo-catalytic degradation of low and high-densitypolyethylene blends (HDPE, LDPE) over H-ZSM-11 zeolite. The reaction system consisted of a fixed bed reactor heated to 500 °C for 20 min. The ratio polymer/zeolite was 2. The liquid and gaseous products were collected in traps connected in series to the reactor outlet. The system operated with N2 flow. The experiments were performed with mixtures 70/30 and 50/50 wt% of HDPE/LDPE. The results were compared to the pure polymers cracking. Yields ranged from liquids to ~ 21 and 35 wt%, while the gaseous products showed values between 63 and 75 wt%. The products distribution showed a significant selectivity to C5-C6 fraction and aromatic hydrocarbons.
