Abstract
In the context of a research project whose objective is the regionalization of the maximum daily precipitations of the province of La Rioja (Argentina), we present the collection of all the existing rainfall information, its digitization and an analysis of the temporal extension of the series thus collected. The existing information comes from several sources, but mainly the total-rainfall gages has its origin in the Provincial Water Institute of La Rioja (IPALAR - ex APA), with the exception of La Rioja, Chepes, Chamical and Chilecito stations (which have the greater temporal extension) coming from the National Meteorological Service (SMN). The time-varied rainfall information comes from the SMN, resulting in La Rioja as the only station with an acceptable temporal extension. The IPALAR rainfall data, available in analog format, totals 17514 log sheets (months), which were acquired in digital format (photographs) and then manually digitized, also performing a first data consistency analysis and correction of log errors . There were 145 pluviometric stations, of which only 4 have record lengths over 20 years, and 50% below 8 years. The hydrological year was established, and based on this, it determined an average of 7.4 complete years per season. This information will serve as a basis for further analyzes of homogeneity, independence and stationarity to be performed as part of the aforementioned project.
