Abstract
The primary aim of this project is the elimination of manual-routine work performed by the operator of the plasma nitriding equipment, which belongs to the Surface Engineering R&D Group (Grupo de Ingeniería de Superficies – GIS) of the National University Technology (UTN), Faculty of Concepción del Uruguay. Consequently, the goal is to achieve the maximum utilization of human talent and to improve the reliability of the experiments performed in the nitriding reactor. In order to provide the necessary tools to implement a system of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), adequacy, design and selection of components involved in the process is carried out. In this case, the voltage and current characteristics have different values to those that are usually found in the industrial sector, and the regional market is unable to provide the adequate instruments. Considering this, it was decided the self-design of the measuring instruments and their subsequent simulation by software in order to verify its correct operation. The decisions about buying, fabrications or adaptations were taken after the evaluation of alternatives, using the justification based on both economic and technical criteria. Finally, the project returns to users a valorized table of possible options to help in the selection of the control level, which will make easier the decision at the time of implementation.
